ISO 9001
Out of the 14 different ISO management standards, ISO 9001:2015 is the most popular - hands down. While some standards are specific to an industry, ISO 9001 is suitable for any business and is a growing requirement for suppliers in Western Canada. The standard specifies how to implement your Quality Management System (QMS) that focuses on continuous improvement, quality products and services, and customer satisfaction. If you are in the manufacturing industry, it’s an important standard for your bidding process with large companies that frequently require its bidders to have their QMS registered to ISO 9001.
iso 14001
ISO 14001:2015 specifies how to implement an environmental quality system (EMS) that measures and improves the organization’s environmental impact. Like ISO 9001, an organization can be certified to this standard. The standard exists to help reduce an organizations’ adverse impact to water, air, or land and also helps with compliance to legislation, regulations, and other environmental requirements with a focus on continuous improvement.
iso 45001
ISO 45001:2018 is a global Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) management system standard. It’s a new standard published in March 2018 that will be replacing OHSAS 18001. If you have a current certification to OHSAS 18001, then you will need to transition to ISO 45001 within three years of its publication. There are similarities between the two standards; however, there are changes such as a more preventive approach to risk while taking into account contractors and suppliers.
