WHAT IS AN ATS ?

An ATS or Applicant Tracking System is software that a lot of recruiters and hiring managers rely on to help them manage the recruitment process. If you submit your résumé through an online portal, it is very likely being processed by an ATS (software) and you should follow certain rules to make sure your résumé makes it into the organizations ATS and doesn’t get lost due to errors.

DOES YOUR RÉSUMÉ (CV) PASS THE ATS TEST ?

Getting through an Applicant Tracking System (ATS) is just one of the reasons people ask us to write and format their résumé or CV. If and ATS such as Taleo, Workday, BambooHR or Bullhorn can’t pull information from your resume, then your application might not make it through to the person that you want to read it. Meaning, it’s important to follow a few rules so your résumé is ATS optimized.

It’s easy to make if past the ATS when you know how, your just need to follow a few simple rules. Like using the file type, using headers, sub-headers and key words, for example. You’ll find some answers online, cracking the ATS code is just the first hurdle. Consider, that if you’re competing with 300 other applicants, if the reader spends just1 minute glancing at all 300 resumes, that will take 5 hours. Often those 300 resume will be narrowed down by filers and never read. If you get through the filters and in front of a person, the most discipline person might not notice you if you’re the 18th resume they review. If you want them to spend more than 20 seconds looking at your resume then you need you to understand what most readers will look for first and show it to them, grasping their attention.
