Nancy Fedyniak, CRSP, ROHT - Progressing your career, what makes the difference?

 Although we could end there as that’s everything you really need to know, although, if that doesn’t resonate with you then perhaps reading about my conversation with Nancy Fedyniak, might help you get there.

Who is Nancy Fedyniak? Expanding on this is it will help us get to the root of what makes the difference, the answer being you. Nancy started a career in Health & Safety after working in operations, she qualified to be a Process Operator. Nancy has had a 20-year career with a world leader in mining and refining of nickel and cobalt. It was Nancy’s time in operations that gave her the foundational knowledge and understanding of how people behave in this environment, to be effective as an Environmental, Health & Advisor. This milestone was Nancy starting to climbing the career ladder to becoming the Director for Site Safety. Nancy could see the possibility of becoming a Site Safety Director, before she became a Safety Director, which is what led to her becoming a Safety Director. Although, Nancy didn’t just think about it being a possibility though, once she realized it as a possibility, she worked hard, maintained ‘high standards’, you’ll see why that term is inverted comma’s if you keep reading. She saw that investing in herself, pursuing her own education and seeking out effective coaching was necessary for her to become a Site Safety Director and in turn, become the person to attracts that opportunity.

I’ve stayed connected with Nancy, due to the person she has become as I see it as an investment of my time, to be around a people like Nancy. You can do three things with time, you can invest, spend, or waste it. Working in recruitment, you’re always gambling with your time and so I recognize investing time in relationships with somebody like Nancy is a time gamble, with good odds. I’ve facilitated Nancy securing contract work, she is now established as an Independent Contractor who is passionate about a particular approach to safety, evident with the name she chose for her company, Higher Standards OHS Incorporated, testament to the person she has become from investing in herself.
